Iran confirmed the death of the president

The government of Iran called an “urgent meeting” in connection with the death of Ibrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials.

Iranian Vice President Mohsen Mansouri confirmed the death of President Ibrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19, Reuters reports.

According to the IRNA news agency, the Iranian government called an “urgent meeting” in connection with the death of Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other officials.

The mass media published a photo of the chair where Raisi usually sits at government meetings – it was wrapped with a black ribbon.

State television reported that footage from the scene showed Raisi’s helicopter crashing into a mountain peak.

Mehr News clarifies that the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province, Malek Rahmati, and Ayatollah Mohammed Ali Ale-Hashem, representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in East Azerbaijan province, were also on board the helicopter.

The country’s first vice president, Mohammad Mohber, is expected to take over as president until the next election.

It will be recalled that on Sunday, May 19, the helicopter carrying the President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi had a “hard landing” .

It was also reported that on May 20, rescuers found a helicopter that had crashed the day before in the mountainous northwestern part of Iran.
