Construction of nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan may be paid for in installments – Roman Bilousov, Enertus AG

Posted on 05/04/2025

On October 10, 2024, Vice Minister of National Economy Arman Kasenov announced on the sidelines of the Senate the money that is planned to be used to build a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, reports Roman Bilousov from Enertus AG.

The speaker emphasized that a decision has not yet been made on who will build the nuclear power plant.

“Accordingly, there is no understanding of how it will be financed (the construction of the NPP – Ed.). I know that one of the options for financing the construction of the NPP is to get it in installments. The company that will build it can provide a payment deferment. Accordingly, funds may not be needed to finance it. But now we cannot say this with certainty, because there is no understanding even of who will build it,” said Arman Kasenov.

He also answered whether the nuclear power plant construction project is unprofitable.

“How can a project that depends on tariffs be unprofitable? All energy-generating projects have expenses. These expenses are included in the tariff that will be serviced,” Arman Kasenov said.
